John Cornolo, one of the founding directors of the 4-H Foundation of Sonoma County who has generously channeled his boundless energy to the benefit of 4-H, is the 2012 recipient of the Shining Star Award. The Shining Star, given by the 4-H Foundation of Sonoma County, annually recognizes a person who has made significant contributions to the Foundation and 4-H Club Work.
Cornolo, who is 81 but looks 61 and acts like he is 51, has served on the 4-H Foundation’s board of directors since 1982, becoming a key person in the design and on-going maintenance of the Sonoma County 4-H Center. His lifetime of experience in building maintenance and his natural knack for mechanics make him invaluable in the 4-H Center’s upkeep.
“As one of the founding directors of the 4-H Foundation, John has been our ‘Do-it/Fix-it Guy,’ spending countless hours consulting, maintaining and repairing the 4-H Center,” said Shirley Dempel, also a founding director of the 4-H Foundation. John and his wife, Allene , became involved in 4-H nearly 40 years ago when their youngest daughters Jennifer and Katie joined 4-H. “I had never heard of 4-H until then,” said Cornolo. But he has become one of the most dedicated volunteers and ardent champions of 4-H.
